The Giant Bee Journal was a sporadically published and dramatically unrehearsed baseball zine written in the mid nineties. Like most publishing ventures, it turned out to be way more work than its creators ever expected, and it died a peaceful death after five glorious issues in April 1995.
The original goal was to cover the San Jose Giants minor league team — formerly the San Jose Bees — and a variety of other baseball topics. The masthead proclaimed: "The Unofficial Guide to San Jose Baseball." It wasn't long before we stopped going to the Giants games altogether — like the city of San Jose, they were fun in theory but painfully boring in practice — and resorted to lazy stunts like baseball haiku, long stories about Wiffle Ball, and humiliating recollections of Little League.
Consider this The Giant Bee Journal's greatest hits. We may add some fresh material along the way, but we learned the first time around not to make any promises.
